I have a little confession to make.
When I first started The Mustard Seed blog, it was with the goal to share my slant on home design; staging, decor. All of that.
Yadda Yadda. Yadda.
In the few weeks that I’ve been up and running I’ve only done that a couple of times, and let’s be honest here, I’m not sure I have much more to offer at the moment. Like, literally. I have nothing to offer. By no means are we poor, but c’mon folks- we’re a family of six on one income.
Not only do I lack dinero, but I’m also batting zero when it comes to being handy. You won’t find many (if any) posts on here about painting some amazing piece of furniture that I found for only $5. Or building a sweet console table by myself out of salvaged wood. Remember when I mentioned I’m banned from power tools and pointy sharp objects? I wasn’t kidding. I’m a menace to society.
What I do, and what I’ve become pretty darn good at? Shopping for items of low cost with big impact, and using what I’ve got to do the best I can. And that’s what I’m going to share for now on.
Most of my furniture is used, I’m currently waiting for my oven to be repaired and I still don’t have a nice bedroom set. A few of my rooms are still waiting for baseboards to be put back on, and the walls really need to be repainted. That all takes time and money.
And I know ya feel me, right?
Surely I’m not the only one. It’s reality. It’s life. Making the best with what you’ve got. Maximizing the minimum. Taking lemons and making lemonade.
So no more pretenses. I’m not going to let unrealistic expectations (that are in my head) keep me from sharing what I love. Not anymore. I can’t compete with the other home decor blogs, so I won’t. I’ll just be me and I’ll just keep doing what I love. Living and sharing.
Speaking of sharing, check out this sweet sweet bacon ornament from Hobby Lobby.
I think I’m in love.
Haha, I like the way you think!
Then you definitely should. Then you can dazzle her with your on point staging skills and color coordination. Try http://www.younghouselove.com. They’re one of the first blogs I ever read.
I’m the worst decorator in the world. Perhaps I’ll have to give them a shot if you say so, my girlfriend loves them in any case!
Why not? Home decor blogs are full of surprises. And thank you 😀
Well, I wouldn’t be subscribed to a purely home decor blog anyways! Uniqueness is the key to standing out, and your site is just that.
